PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CCD type solid-state image pickup element capable of reducing the number of transfer electrodes in a vertical transfer unit. SOLUTION: A CCD type solid-state image pickup element comprises light reception parts arrayed in a matrix shape, a vertical transfer part for vertically transferring electric charges transferred from the light reception parts and a horizontal transfer part for horizontally transferring electric charges transferred from the vertical transfer part, wherein the vertical transfer part divides and vertically transfers electric charges, and the horizontal transfer part horizontally transfers the divided electric charges in a state where the electric charges are mixed.
