PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable monomer which imparts an optical material suitable as a material for spectacle lenses or the like, having a high refractive index, a large Abbe number and also high heat resistance, and exhibiting such good processability as to scarcely emit unpleasant odor when undergoing machining such as grinding and abrading. SOLUTION: The sulfur-containing polymerizable adamantane compound comprises (a) one adamantyl group such as 1,3-adamantane dithiol, 3,5-dimercaptoadamantan-1-ol, 1,3-bis(2-mercaptoethylthio)adamantine, (b) at least two polyaddition-type functional groups selected from a mercapto group, a hydroxyl group, an episulfide group, an epoxy group, a thioisocyanate group, or an isocyanate group, and (c) at least one sulfur atom.
