PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the yield of a biphenyl compound and to facilitate the acquisition of a product when producing the symmetrical biphenyl compound by reacting a substituted aromatic Grignard reagent produced by using an aromatic chloride having low reactivity as a raw material in the presence of a transition metal compound. SOLUTION: Tetrahydrofuran is used as a solvent when producing the biphenyl compound by reacting the Grignard reagent comprising a substituted aromatic compound. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
