OBSTACLE DETECTOR AND OBSTACLE DETECTION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently detect an obstacle around a vehicle while suppressing processing load.

SOLUTION: The surrounding of the vehicle is monitored by a plurality of cameras 21 and a plurality of radars 22. When a search process is carried out in search for the obstacle by image recognition or radar detection by a search processing part 12, a detailed search area is set carrying out a selective detailed search for a position where the obstacle exists or in a vicinity of a position where there is a possibility for the existence of the obstacle and the search for the obstacle is carried out efficiently while suppressing the processing load by carrying out the search by concentrating processing function. The position where the obstacle exists or the position with the possibility of the existence of the obstacle are detected from feedback of past search results or information acquirement from outside by a communicating apparatus 20.
