PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical shutter for display which can be operated at a higher speed and can improve the efficiency of taking out light. SOLUTION: Response limit frequency becomes higher when pixel size is 20μm×20μm as compared to that when the pixel size is 35μm×35μm. That is, as the pixel size becomes smaller, area upon expansion of non-polar liquid becomes smaller (that is, the necessary degree of expansion is reduced), the necessary quantity of liquid of the non-polar liquid is also reduced and, therefore, the response speed of a liquid device can be made higher. In other words, the liquid device has rib pixels of adequately small pixel size and, therefore, can obtain a response speed sufficiently satisfying the required speed.
