PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy method for manufacturing a barrier rib, the barrier rib being capable of keeping the distance between substrates to be constant and forming a space connecting adjacent cells, and to provide an electrophoretic display panel having the barrier rib. SOLUTION: The barrier rib of an electrophoretic display panel is manufactured by the following method. First, in a step of forming a gap material mixture resist layer, a gap material mixture resist layer comprising a mixture of a resist and a gap material to hold the distance between a first substrate and a second substrate to a given value is formed on the first substrate (S10). In an exposure step, the gap material mixture resist layer or a resist is exposed (S30) through a mask having an opening pattern for exposing the pattern of the barrier rib, after the step of forming the gap material mixture resist layer and/or during the step of forming the gap material mixture resist layer.
