PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear image sensor which reduces a noise of an output signal and cuts down consumption power. SOLUTION: A high resolution transfer register and a low resolution transfer register are set each pixel string, the low resolution transfer register is stopped at reading a high resolution, and the noise is reduced by stopping the high resolution transfer register at reading a low resolution.
