Provided is a plasma display panel driving method, in which an all-cell initializing operation for generating an initializing discharge for all discharge cells to perform an image display is performed for an initializing period of at least one sub-field. In the sub-fields other than a sub-field of the initializing period for the all-cell initializing operation, sub-fields for generating the writing discharges and sub-fields for ungenerating the writing discharges are arbitrarily combined to display gradations by the discharge cells.
