A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce the number of circuit elements by implementing one transistor between sustain electrodes and a voltage source that supplies a positive voltage to the sustain electrodes. A plasma display apparatus includes a sustain driver(411), a first transistor, and a capacitor. The sustain driver is connected to plural first electrodes and applies alternately first and second voltages to the first electrodes during a sustain period. The first transistor is connected between the first electrodes and a first voltage source for supplying a third voltage lower than the first voltage. The capacitor is connected between the first voltage source and a second voltage source for supplying a fourth voltage lower than the third voltage, and is charged by the first voltage when the first voltage is applied to the first electrodes during the sustain period. The capacitor is discharged under the third voltage during a period before turning on the first transistor after the sustain period.
