<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trenching machine suitable for cutting a trench in a rock or a solid soil material. <P>SOLUTION: A cutting device 23 containing an endless chain cutter is mounted on a prime mover 21 for positioning the cutting device in a trench 18. The cutting device 23 is projected forwardly and downwardly relative to the direction of cutting the trench, and a drive means is arranged to drive the chain in the direction to carry cutting elements upwardly around a distal end of a boom and in the direction to be carried backward along the upward sliding part of the endless chain cutter 23. In operation, the distal end of the chain cutter 23 is positioned against the end face of the trench at the bottom of the trench 18, and the prime mover 21 moves the chain cutter forwardly in the trench while operating the chain cutter 23 by lifting the cutting device to the upward direction, so as to produce an undercut 55 in the end face 54 of the trench. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
