The method involves communicating device descriptions and a frame application (R) over an interface that is given in a field device tool specification. A test component (P) is provided between the application and the device descriptions, where the test component is transparent for communication between the application and the device descriptions and tests an interface access. A test whether data assigned with the interface access corresponds to the specification is performed. The test component is based on finite automations which describe the specification and sequence at the interface.
