PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for elucidation of toxicity of a compound, an agent or a toxin to multicellular organisms. SOLUTION: The invention is based on the elucidation of the activity of a protein, the global changes in gene expression in tissues or cells exposed to known toxins, as compared to unexposed tissues or cells as well as the identification of individual genes that are differentially expressed upon toxin exposure, and includes the data base characterized by toxin-induced differential expression that is designed for use with microarrays and other solid-phase probes.
