A space information detecting apparatus is provided to reduce possible saturation phenomenon due to influence of environmental light. This apparatus includes a photoelectric transducer which receives signal light in a subject space to generate electric charges, an electric-charge-separating section which separates unnecessary electric charges corresponding to electric charges with predetermined quality of bias components from those generated by the photoelectric transducer, an electric-charge-storing section which stores electric charges subjected to the elimination of unnecessary electric charges from those generated by the photoelectric transducer as effective electric charges reflecting fluctuating components of the signal light, barrier control electrodes which form a potential barrier between the electric-charge-separating section and the electric-charge-storing section, and an electric charge taking-out section which takes out effective electric charges stored in the electric-charge-storing section as an output of received light. A voltage supplied to the barrier control electrodes to change a height of the potential barrier adjusts a quantity of electric charges flowing into the electric-charge-storing section over the potential barrier from the charge separating section.
