An air conditioning system and a control method thereof are provided to perform cooling and heating operations corresponding to variation of load by continuously changing an operating frequency of an inverter compressor when the variation of load is detected. An air conditioning system comprises at least one air conditioning unit(100) and at least one outdoor unit(200). The air conditioning unit includes an indoor heat exchanger(120), discharges indoor air to the outside, and sucks outdoor air to exhaust the outdoor air to an interior of a room through the indoor heat exchanger, thereby selectively performing ventilation of an indoor space, air purification, and cooling and heating. The outdoor unit includes an outdoor heat exchanger(240), and is connected to the indoor heat exchanger in order to vary the cooling and heating capacity of the air conditioning unit by changing the capacity of heat supplied to the indoor heat exchanger or capacity of heat collected by the indoor heat exchanger.
