A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving signals capable of decreasing an imbalance between I and Q signals are provided to prevent gains of filter amplifiers from being changed by changing a signal level of a band-limited complex IF signal. A receiver(100) includes a first filter(104), a mixer(140), second filters(122,124), and first amplifiers(126,128). The first filter converts a real RF signal to a complex RF(Radio Frequency) signal. The mixer converts a frequency of the complex RF signal to an IF(Intermediate Frequency) signal to generate a complex IF signal. The second filters limit bands of the complex IF signals. The first amplifiers change signal levels of the band-limited complex IF signals. An ADC(Analog Digital Converter) converts the level-shifted complex IF signal to a digital signal. A second amplifier changes a signal level of the digital complex IF signal.
