[Also in Group XXXVI] In making a hermetic seal between two metal parts of an envelope containing an electrical structure, at least one part being of nickel-ironcobalt alloy, both parts are provided with plane mating flanges, a wafer of metal capable of being cold-welded is placed between the flanges and pressure is applied to the flanges. Annular flanges 3, 4 are provided on iron - nickel - cobalt alloy cylinders 1, 2, the cylinder 2 carrying a transistor 6 on a glass base 5, and an annular copper wafer 8 is placed on the flange 4. Cold-welding pressure is applied to the outer portions of the flanges to effect sealing. The structure may be a thermionic valve or a semi-conductor diode. Specification 561,111 is referred to.</p> |
