<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve miniaturization while recording and reproducing information for recording media corresponding to three different record formats. <P>SOLUTION: An optical system for CD and DVD and an optical system for BD (Blu-ray disc) are formed separately, and a light source unit 10 which is made by including a second semiconductor laser 12 for DVD and a third semiconductor laser 13 for CD into one package and a first semiconductor laser 11 for BD are prepared for respective optical systems. A Dichroic PBS 211 and a half mirror 212 are prepared in an outward route/return route separation section 21, and (a) light guide is carried out for a light beam output from the first semiconductor laser 11 to a first collimator lens 22, and for a light beam output from the light source unit 10 to a second collimator lens 23 respectively, and (b) light paths of return light from an optical disk DK is combined and light guided is carried out to a light receiving part 3.
