PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide unit capable of firmly fixing a light guide rod on a prescribed position and a projector provided with the light guide unit. SOLUTION: The projector comprises a light source device, a light guide unit, a light source side optical system, a display element, a projection side optical system, a cooling fan, and a projector control means. The light guide unit 80 is provided with: a wedge-like light guide rod 81 wherein an area on the projection face side is smaller than an area on the incident face side, the incident face is formed as a square and the projection face is formed as a long sideways rectangle; a cylindrical holding member 82 of which the inner surface shape is approximately the similar shape as the light guide rod 81; and a locking board 83 for fixing the light guide rod 81 on the holding member 82.
