PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption more by a new power saving mode in an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: In a standby/off mode (STBYOFF), the power is supplied to at least a portion of circuits of a recording and reproducing part to make a recording request standby. In a VTR off mode (SAVE 1), the power is supplied to a monitor system block from a power supply part to stop a power supply circuit supplying the power to the recording and reproducing part while displaying a picked-up image on a monitor and to also drive a VTR control system block for controlling the recording and reproducing part in a sleep mode for executing only processing needed for a return operation of the recording and reproducing part. In the VTR off mode (SAVE 1), for example, when a standby state of a recording request continues for a long time, power consumption can be greatly suppressed in comparison with the standby/off mode (STBYOFF) even though a time is required to some extent up to a recording operation start.
