PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the use efficiency of a shelf by preventing generation of a dead space. SOLUTION: An automatic warehouse is provided with shelf boards 2 of plural stages along a carrying passage 1 of an article W, and a transferring device 5 moving/lifting the carrying passage 1 and storing the article W at a predetermined position of the shelf board 2. In the method storing the plurality of articles having different width in the shelf board 2 of one stage, the articles W are classified for each width, and the shelf board 2 is divided into a plurality of storage spaces 2b. The divided storage spaces 2b are assigned for storing a predetermined number of the articles W of a specific group. The articles W in the same group are stored only in the same storage space 2b.
