BACKLIGHT UNIT AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) including the same are provided to reduce the size of the LCD corresponding to the second area of a light guide panel, thereby reducing the size of the LCD. A light guide panel(420) is located at the rear of an LCD panel(100). A light source member(430) is located at the light receiving surface of the light guide panel. The light guide panel includes a saw-toothed portion(421) formed at the light receiving surface. Plural scattering holes(422) are formed adjacent to the light receiving surface and penetrate the light transmission surface and the reflection surface of the light guide panel. The light source member includes plural LEDs(Light Emitting Diodes)(431). The light source member also includes an LED substrate with the mounted LEDs. The surface of the LED substrate is opposite to the light receiving surface of the light guide panel.
