PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting/holding furnace capable of positively defoaming dross. SOLUTION: This melting/holding furnace comprising a melting chamber 110 for melting a charged metallic material 10 by a first heating means 111 to obtain molten bath 20, and a holding chamber 120 communicated with the melting chamber 110 for adjusting and holding the molten bath 20 flowing therein from the melting chamber 110 at a prescribed temperature by a second heating means 121, further comprises an energy applying means for applying the energy of prescribed conformation to the dross 11 produced in a melting process of the metallic material 10 and accompanying gas bubbles inside to accelerate defoaming.
