A method and an apparatus for processing audio signals are provided to reduce calculation amounts by decoding merely low frequencies in the decoding of extension signals. An ancillary signal for generating audio signals and an extension signal included in the ancillary signal are extracted from bitstreams, which are received(1410). Length information of the extension signal is read out(1420). The audio signals are generated using the ancillary signal(1470). An extension area of the ancillary signal is a header extension area of a spatial information signal. The extension area of the ancillary signal is a frame extension area of the spatial information signal. The extension signal is a residual signal. The length information of the extension signal is allocated based on a fixed bit.
