PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid detector which can correctly detect that a residual quantity of liquid becomes nearly zero, and a viscosity or concentration of the liquid, and to provide an ink cartridge and a printer. SOLUTION: The liquid detector is used for a liquid container equipped with a storage part 71 in which the liquid is stored, a discharge port, and a passage 73 which guides the liquid from the storage part 71 to the discharge port. The liquid detector which detects the presence or absence of the liquid in the storage part 71 has a piezoelectric body 81, a resonating means which resonates a thin part 812, a detecting means which detects a resonance frequency of the thin part 812 and/or insertion loss at the time of resonance, a determination means which determines on the basis of the detection result whether or not the liquid residual quantity is nearly zero, and a liquid condition acquiring means which obtains the viscosity or concentration of the liquid on the basis of the detection result. The piezoelectric body 81 has a recess 811 formed at a center part which becomes the thin part 812 functioning as a vibrator to vibrate in a thickness skid mode or a thickness mode.
