The present invention relates to substituted cycloalkenyl butenones of the formula (I) wherein n is 1 to 5; R<SUP>1</SUP> is H, CH<SUB>3</SUB>, or C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>; and the bond between C-2 and C-3 is a single bond and the dotted line together with the bond between C-1 and C-2 represents a double bond; or the bond between C-1 and C-2 is a single bond and the dotted line together with the bond between C-2 and C-3 represents a double bond, and C-1 is optionally substituted with methyl or ethyl. The invention furthermore relates to fragrance compositions comprising them.
