PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the configuration of a video projection apparatus (projector) which has a wider-viewing angle and performs satisfactory display of a large screen without distortion, and is suited for downsizing. SOLUTION: The video projection apparatus (projector) comprises a light source unit 200, an optical modulation unit 300 and a projection optical unit 400 for magnifying and projecting video light from the optical modulation unit, which are disposed inside a substantially boxed type housing 100, wherein the projection optical unit has: a lens group composed of a plurality of lens elements arranged symmetrically with respect to an optical axis; and a lens element having an asymmetric shape with respect to the optical axis in the order toward light projection from a video display element. The video projection apparatus includes a reflection mirror having a free curved-surface shape asymmetric with respect to the optical axis, which is disposed outside the housing, and is installed on a prescribed position by moving the reflection mirror.
