A security control device and a method thereof are provided to control security of a portable terminal by using an authenticated short-range wireless communication apparatus, thereby more increasing security of the portable terminal. If security setup is requested(S201), a controller confirms whether a security control apparatus is registered(S202). If it is confirmed that the registered security control apparatus exists(S203), the controller sets a password(S204). The controller completes security setup of a portable terminal(S205). If the security control apparatus does not exist, the controller searches an external apparatus located within a Bluetooth network area by activating a Bluetooth module(S206). If more than one external apparatus exists(S207), the controller registers an external apparatus having a certain condition as a security control apparatus(S208).
