PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorbing member having excellent absorbing properties of impact loads. SOLUTION: In the impact absorbing member using an alloy exhibiting two stage elastic-plastic properties in a stress-strain curve, the relation between the first and second stress and strain corresponding to each stress satisfies the following inequalities (1) and (2): (1) 4≤σ2/σ1≤10; and (2) 25≤σ2×(ε2-ε1)/(σ1×ε1); wherein, the respective symbols in the inequalities denote the following:σ1 is the first stress (yield stress, MPa);σ2 is the second stress (fracture stress, MPa);ε1 is strain(%) corresponding toσ1; andε2 is strain(%) corresponding toσ2.
