An apparatus and a method for controlling lyric coloring in a karaoke system are provided to check an error between time marker information and lyrics and to adjust the time marker information to correspond to the lyrics in case of the error. An apparatus for controlling coloring lyric data in a karaoke system comprises a memory(14), and a microcomputer(13). The memory stores lyrics and time marker information. The microcomputer checks an error between the lyric and the time market information and controls the time marker information to correspond to the lyric when an error occurs. The time marker information includes coloring start time, coloring speed, and bar division information.
