An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving feedback information in a mobile communication system using an array antenna are provided to provide a high data transmission rate with a smaller amount of feedback information. A receiver(130) estimates a fading channel of reception data to determine a weight value set having a maximum data transmission rate in at least one weight value set having a plurality of mutually orthogonal weight vectors as elements, and transmits feedback information having the determined weight value set and state information of each channel to a transmitter(110). The transmitter demultiplexes data to be transmitted into at least one sub-data stream based on the feedback information, multiplies a corresponding weight value to each demultiplexed sub-data stream, and transmits the same. In the state information of each channel, the amount of feedback information is adaptively controlled according to the number of weight vectors.
