Provided is a magnetic recording medium having a reference signal recording region for a magnetic recording/reproducing head to confirm a position on the magnetic recording medium. This magnetic recording medium is characterized in that the reference signal recording region is made of an electrically conductive member for writing a reference signal by making use of a magnetic domain wall movement caused by the electric conduction and has a nonconductive member enclosing the reference signal recording region.
