The press (1) has a plunger (6), which supports a movable tool part and movably supports in a direction. A plunger drive (9) is connected to the plunger so as to move the plunger based on a selectable path/time curve. The plunger drive has a lever drive (10) with a stilt end and a tappet (18). The plunger drive comprises a drive source (11) connected to the tappet and executing a continuous drive motion, and an another drive source (12) connected to the stilt end and performing a modulated drive movement. An independent claim is also included for a method for deformation of an work piece.
