PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimming material having high durability. SOLUTION: The dimming material has at least one liquid crystal layer between a pair of transparent electrodes and varies the transmittance for incident light. The substrate used is a barrier film substrate comprising at least one organic layer and at least two inorganic layers on a plastic film, with the organic layer and inorganic layer alternately layered.
