<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monolithic refractory showing high hot-strength and an excellent durability. <P>SOLUTION: The rare earth metal-containing monolithic refractory comprises, by mass, 50-99% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0.005-20% at least one rare earth metal oxide and the balance being MgO and other unavoidable impurities.
