Disclosed is a catalyst for olefin polymerization which is composed of (A) a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization which is obtained by bringing an organosilicon compound (b) represented by the following general formula: [CH2=CH-(CH2)n]qSiR1 4-q into contact with a solid component (a) containing magnesium, titanium and halogen atoms, and (B) an organic aluminum compound represented by the following general formula: R2rAlQ3-r. Also disclosed is a method for producing an olefin polymer wherein polymerization of an olefin is performed in the presence of such a catalyst. By using such a catalyst, a polymer having high catalytic activity and high tacticity can be obtained with high yield, while improving the activity durability.
