PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to change a S range selective limit speed ratio without producing excessive and deficient engine brake during change-over from an automatic shift (D) range into a sporty travel (S) range. SOLUTION: When S11 determines D→S range change-over and S14 determines S→D range return operation before down-shift to the S range selective limit speed ratio, S17 or S18 changes the S range selective limit speed ratio to be high because the operation results from the excessive engine brake. To change it, S16 checks whether there is further continuous D→S→D range change-over or not after S→D range return. If not, S17 changes the S range selective limit speed ratio to be as high as responding to once S→D range return.
