The device fixes a tire in a retainer (13) in a rotatable manner, where tire is driven corresponding to a tire tread. Analysis of the tire tread takes place according to optical detection of the tire tread. The optically detected tread is aligned with a reference-tread so that the optically detected tread is deposited in a data base. Search and alignment of the tire tread is accelerated by manually inputting of tire types. The tire types are inputted by scanning of tire type-data at a tire edge.
