POLYELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE, CATALYTIC ELECTRODE, MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY, THEIR MANUFACTURING METHODS AND BINDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyelectrolyte membrane with excellent electrical and mechanical characteristics, a catalytic electrode, a membrane electrode assembly, their manufacturing methods and a binder.

SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly 40 used as a fuel cell comprises the catalytic electrodes 22a and 22b and the polyelectrolyte membrane 10 clamped by them, and the polyelectrolyte membrane 10 comprises the particles 12 of polystyrenesulfonic acid polymer (PSSA) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) 18 bonding the particles. The catalytic electrodes 22a and 22b comprise the mixture of carbon particles 12 carrying catalytic metals 19a and 19b and the PSSA particles 12 and the PVDF 18 between the mixture, and the carbon particles 12 are bonded by the binder obtained by evaporating an organic solvent from a solution for which the PSSA particles 12 are dispersed in the organic solvent for which the PVDF is dissolved.
