PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a static eliminator having a circuit structure capable of holding down the output of a high voltage generating circuit to the minimum voltage. SOLUTION: In this static eliminator Z, secondary switches SWa, SWb are provided in both high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 respectively, and the secondary switches SWa, SWb are opened for the high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 which are not yet in operation, and the circuits are controlled in a high impedance state. Thereby, the high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 which are not yet operated can be separated from the high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 in operation. Accordingly, the output voltage of the high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 in operation can be impressed to a discharge electrode 5 as it is without lowering it. If the circuits are structured this way, the output of the positive and negative high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 can be managed with the minimum level (a level slightly higher than a discharge starting voltage at which the discharge electrode starts discharge), and the high voltage generating circuits 7, 8 can be miniaturized and their costs can be reduced.
