A VSP-BACSKA named variety of spelt (Triticum-Spelta L.) ripens in early-mid season, has high protein and gluten contents. It is suitable for threshing and its main use is for fodder. This spelt has following characteristics: autumnal growth pattern; parallel shaped ears together with awn-stumps, wide shouldered husks (glumes). The interior hairiness of ear-husks is not extensive, their teeth are short and slightly curved. The convex side of the top member of the spindle is only slightly, or not hairy at all. Grains are coloured red. Characteristically, the frequency of semi-upright/transitional growth pattern type stooping flag-leaved, plant-individuals is moderate. Flag-leaf sheaths, ear supporting stalk-members and ears are slightly or moderatedly waxed. Auricles of flag-leaves are not, or are only moderately anthcyanine coloured. Ears develop during early-mid season. Plants are medium tall. Straw cross-sections reveal medium thick pitch, ears are compact, white when ripened, ear-lengths are medium to long. Beard stumps are very short. Shoulders of ear-husks are straight and rounded. Grains assume a dark colour when treated with phenol. |
