A method for controlling a digital photographing apparatus, and a digital photographing apparatus using the same are provided to allow a user to change a photographed image to a desired color easily. A method for controlling a digital photographing apparatus includes photographing of a subject to store an image file in a recording medium and reproducing the image file stored in the recording medium to display a corresponding image on a display device(35). When the subject is photographed and the image file is stored in the recording medium, by acquiring color information of a peripheral object of the digital photographing apparatus or acquiring color information from an image of the image file stored in the recording medium, previously acquired color information is added to the photographed and acquired color information to be stored in the recording medium.
