A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to perform a rest period not applying sustain discharge pulse to discharge cells when displaying a low grayscale image. A plasma display device includes a PDP(Plasma Display Panel,100), a controller(200), and drivers(300,400,500). Plural discharge cells are defined by first to third electrodes. The controller divides one frame into plural sub-fields and performs reset, address, and sustain periods for the respective sub-fields. The drivers drive the PDP according to a control signal from the controller. When an image signal for one frame represents grayscale lower than a reference grayscale value, the controller performs a sustain discharge pulse application period and a rest period. During the sustain discharge pulse application period, sustain discharge pulses, which alternately have a first voltage and a second voltage lower than the first voltage, are applied to the first and second electrodes. During the rest period, at least one of the first and second electrodes is maintained at the second voltage.
