PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cleaning a separation membrane which is convenient and has a high cleaning effect. SOLUTION: The cleaning method is a method for cleaning a separation membrane 102 to be used in membrane filtration and comprises blocking a lower opening of a separation membrane unit 10 in which the separation membrane 102 is incorporated and pouring a liquid into the separation membrane unit 10 to immerse the separation membrane 102 in the liquid.
