The arrangement has a sensor (6) provided on a side of a dental object (2) for recording intensity of energy released from the object. A film thickness is determined in correlation to intensity reduction of the energy at an opening through the object or an impression in a reflection unit (9) to represent an appropriate surface contour (10) of the object as height information over the film thickness based on an entry surface (4) of the energy in the object or impression. A defined geometric shape of a surface region of the object is provided on the entry surface of the energy in the object.
