A method and an apparatus for automatically adjusting an image of a projector are provided to recognize it's own 3D position and project a suitable image on the most suitable screen in a current position. A UWB(Ultra Wideband) module(202) receives an image data signal and screen position information from the outside, measures position information of a projector, and transmits the measured position information to a control unit(208). A tilt sensor measures a tilt and a direction of the projector, and transmits the measured information to the control unit. The control unit measures a distance between a screen and the projector, accesses a focusing correction value corresponding to the measured distance value from a database(210), and outputs the accessed focusing correction value to a focusing correction unit(212). The control unit produces key-stone information from a height difference value between the projector and the screen and the tilt and direction information measured in the tilt sensor, accesses a key-stone correction value corresponding to the key-stone information from the database, and outputs the accessed key-stone correction value to a key-stone correcting unit(214). The focusing correction unit performs focusing correction on the basis of the focusing correction value. The key-stone correcting unit performs key-stone correction on the basis of the key-stone correction value. A display unit(216) displays the image data signal through the projector corrected from the focusing correction unit and the key-stone correcting unit.
