A plasma display panel is provided to improve bright room contrast and to reduce external light luminance by coloring a front substrate, a dielectric layer, and a barrier rib with different colors, or the dielectric layer, a protective layer, and the barrier rib with the different colors. A rear substrate(10) is colored with a predetermined color. A front substrate(301) is arranged away from the first substrate. A barrier rib(511) is arranged between the rear and front substrates to divide discharge cells(17). The barrier rib is colored with a predetermined color. A fluorescent substance layer(19) is formed on the discharge cell. An address electrode(11) is formed on the front substrate corresponding to the discharge cells. A display electrode(30) comprised of a pair of electrodes is formed on the front substrate corresponding to the discharge cells. A dielectric layer(13) covers the display electrode and is formed on the whole rear substrate. The dielectric layer is colored with a predetermined color. Three colors of the rear substrate, the barrier rib, and the dielectric layer are mixed in a subtractive color mixture to configure a complementary color.
