PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observation optical system achieving observation of a bright and clear image on a display body. SOLUTION: The display observation optical system 20 is equipped with the illumination optical system 25 condensing light from a light source 21 and the display body 22 illuminated by the light condensed by using the illumination optical system 25 and also capable of transmitting illuminating light from the illumination optical system 25, wherein the image displayed on the display body 22 is observed by utilizing the illuminating light transmitted through the display body 22. In the display observation optical system 20, the illumination optical system 25 is constituted of a positive lens 26 and a meniscus lens 27 turning its convex surface to the display body 22 side, which are arranged in order from the light source 21 side to the display body 22 side.
