A resource information providing system includes resource information providing apparatuses hierarchically organized for periodically collecting resource information on a device to be managed and stores it in a cache. If an elapsed time specifying request which specifies the maximum allowable elapsed time with respect to the resource information is inputted from a request source which requests the resource information, the resource information providing apparatuses determine the maximum elapsed time from the acquisition of the resource information from the device to be managed until the arrival thereof to the request source and judge whether the maximum elapsed time exceeds the maximum allowable elapsed time inputted from the request source. If yes, the resource information providing apparatuses shorten the collection interval thereof by the time obtained by subtracting the maximum allowable elapsed time from the maximum elapsed time.
