PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair type massaging machine having a backrest portion rockably directly supported on a seat, which senses the critical rocking angle of the backrest portion and can prevent the backrest portion from colliding with a floor surface, irrespective of the rocking angle of the seat. SOLUTION: The chair type massaging machine has the seat 20 rockably supported by a base frame 14 and on which a person to be massaged sits, the backrest portion 30 rockably supported by the base frame 14 or the seat 20 at the rear end of the seat 20 to keep a massaged person's back butted, and a backrest portion rocking means 34 arranged in the seat 20 to rock the backrest portion 30, and permits the backrest portion 30 to be directly rocked with respect to the seat 20.
