The invention relates to a method for treating water from displacement and therapy basins for humans and animals, whereby continuously high cleaning power can be achieved when the displacement and therapy basins, which are used only temporarily in parts, have alternating degrees of water contamination. According to the method, the basin water (1.1) is treated in a circuit having several purification steps. Said method consists of the following steps: filtering a suctioned contaminated water basin total volume flow (10) by means of a filter (4'), optionally, adding a flocculation agent (8.3) to the water basin total volume flow (10) and subsequently filtering the undisolved suspended matter by means of a filter (4 ), separating the suctioned water basin volume flow (10) in a first water basin partial volume flow (10.1), which is to be treated biotechnologically, and in a second water basin partial volume flow (10.2), which is to be treated physically, and guiding the first water basin partial volume flow (10.1) and the second water basin partial volume flow (10.2), which are to be purified again, to the displacement and therapy basin (1).
